The Lion King - Production

Image
The Lion King is an animated musical film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation. Its development began in 1988, between Jeffrey Katzenberg, Roy E. Disney and Peter Schneider whilst in Europe promoting Oliver & Company . By fall, Thomas Disch had written the first treatment for the project (which was then known as The King of the Kalahari , later King of the Jungle , finally The Lion King ) and submitted it to the studio.  George Scribner signed on as director and was paired with Roger Allers. In November 1991, the two directors, along with a group of animators and artists, travelled to East Africa to research on the film's setting and animals. It was from this trip, that the group was introduced to the phrase "Hakuna Matata" by their tour guide.  However once they returned, Scribner stepped down from his position and went on to be a consultant for the project, leaving Allers to be paired with director Rob Minkoff.  A big issue concerning production

The Lion King - The Setting

Image
The Lion King takes place in Tanzania; a republic that is located in eastern Africa. Some of the environmental landscapes that were depicted within the movie were inspired from different areas that can be found within Tanzania. The Pride Rock which can be seen at the start of the movie and also in-between was served as the central location of The Lion King universe. The setting was conceptualised from the idea of how the Pope were to greet his people within the Vatican. . Olduvai Gorge; a paleoanthropological site that is located to the east of the Serengeti Plain of Tanzania was the environmental focus point towards the scene of where the wildebeest stampede was occurring as well as the death of King Mufasa. However other scenes throughout the movie such as the jungle where Timon and Pumba resides, the elephant graveyard, and the watering hole, etc, were not based on any environmental surroundings that can be found throughout Tanzania. Zootopia - The Setting

Zootopia is one of the best animation movies in the world. The main focus of the film is about prejudice (which is pre-convinced opinion that is not based on reasons or actual experience), which (prejudice) also harms everyone equally and how prejudice leads to racism (which is discrimination against ones race) . Its sound track was made by Michael Giacchis. Zootopia emerged from his desire to create something different from other animal anthropomorphic films.  It was announced in August 2013 and it was realised in March 2016. The research for the film took place in Disney animal kingdom, Kenya and also San Diego zoo safari park. reference - https://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2016/03/zootopia-nails-the-relationship-between-prejudice.html - http://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/movies/disney-20160321-gnn2hn.html - https://consequenceofsound.net/2016/03/film-review-zootopia/

The next day, determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case about the disappearance of 14 predators. Partnering up with Nick Wilde, she intends to solve this mystery and is given only 48 hours to solve the case, along with a condition that if she fails she must resign.  As we follow Hopps journey, we see the 'savage' nature of animals and the governmental conspiracy behind it all. It is a film that is also jam-packed with stereotypical humour and if one is to compare this world to ou

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them - The Setting

Image
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set seventy years before the Harry Potter series, in New York 1926. The wizarding world in this film differs slightly to the one presented in the Harry Potter Series. The magical laws and terms are distinct from the UK since it is based in America. Instead of referring to non-magical humans as 'muggles' they are referred to as 'no-maj'.  In America, the Magical Congress of the United States (commonly known as MACUSA) established a strict law known as 'Rappaport's Law', which aimed to segregate the magical and 'no-maj' communities. A wizard seen or heard fraternising with 'no-majs' will endure serious consequences. As opposed to the Uk, where the worst witches and wizard criminals were sent to Azkaban, in America they were executed. The president of MACUSA during the time of Newt's visit was Seraphina Picquery.  Moreover, the wizarding school in America is Ilvermorny Sc
